Butchart Gardens

Once the residence of the Butchart family, this property was purchased to extract limestone for a cement factory in 1904. After the quarry was exhausted, Jennie Butchart brought to life a vision she called the Sunken Garden. From that point on, this piece of industrial land has turned into 55 acres of gardens with over 50,000 bulbs and 900 plant species. Today, as a National Historic Site of Canada, the legacy of the Butchart family continues.
